Armed officers swooped on a Stow Crescent house yesterday after a man reportedly held a gun and threatened to harm himself and anyone entering the property.
Hours-Long Standoff Ends in Shots Fired
The drama began at 10am when family members dialled 999, fearing for the man’s safety. Police negotiators spent hours trying to calm the situation, with a cordon sealing off the area.
But tensions escalated around 2pm when officers heard a bang inside. Weapons were discharged as they entered the property.
The exact events leading up to the shooting and what happened inside remain under investigation.
Man Survives, Now Hospitalised
Police and paramedics treated the man at the scene before rushing him to hospital. His condition is serious but not life-threatening. He remains in hospital with what's described as life-changing injuries.
Probe Launched, Community Reassured
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is now investigating.
Assistant Commissioner Matt Twist said: "Our thoughts are with the injured man and his family. Incidents involving police firearms are incredibly rare.
"We must let the investigation run its course. Armed officers face tough decisions daily, risking their lives to keep London safe. I thank them for their bravery and thank local residents for their cooperation today."
The scene remains cordoned off. Police urge the public to avoid the area. Authorities confirm there's no wider threat to the community.
