Police investigating the cold-blooded execution of Karmiotissa football chief Stavros Demosthenous have recovered a motorbike believed to be the killers’ getaway ride. The discovery follows a tip-off, with the vehicle found burnt out near the Limassol coast, matching eyewitness descriptions.

Forensics hunt for clues on getaway motorbike

Authorities seized the motorcycle on Saturday and launched forensic tests to confirm if it was used in the brazen daylight hit. The ruthless attack saw the 49-year-old businessman gunned down by masked gunmen who torched their van to cover their tracks.

Three bullets to the head – son witnesses shocking murder

Demosthenous was blasted three times in the head after his white car was ambushed at 9:30am on Friday, just 500 metres from his Limassol home. His 18-year-old son, driving at the time, watched helplessly as two men fired an estimated 13 shots in a chilling, well-planned ambush.

In a frantic attempt to save his father, the teenager crashed the vehicle on the motorway before flagging down help. Despite emergency care, Demosthenous was pronounced dead at hospital.

Police uncover vital evidence at crime scenes

Police found shell casings inside the torched van and a hat believed to belong to one of the gunmen near the murder site. “We are piecing together crucial evidence to identify the killers,” said police spokesperson Christodoulos Konsolos.

The killers staged a coordinated ambush: two men exited a white van from different doors, opening fire with automatic weapons and fleeing the scene immediately afterward.

Cyprus football in shock as club mourns

The Cyprus Football Association swiftly postponed all Karmiotissa matches until next Sunday. “Our heartfelt condolences go out to Karmiotissa and the family of Mr Demosthenous,” said CFA officials. Demosthenous had strong ties in Cyprus football, previously heading Aris Limassol before his role at Karmiotissa.

Investigation points to professional hit

Police labelled the murder a “well-organised criminal act,” indicating a professional contract killing with possible gangland links. The meticulous planning, high firepower, and knowledge of the victim’s routine suggest deep premeditation.

Demosthenous had personal security, hinting he might have been aware of threats. Investigators are now questioning his circle and business dealings to uncover motives.

The hunt for killers continues

Police urge anyone with information on the white van, motorcycle, or suspicious activity to come forward. Despite no arrests yet, officers remain committed to bringing the killers to justice.

Cyprus reels from the shock of this daylight execution, with the football community and nation anxiously awaiting answers in the high-profile case.
