Man Caught With 7-Inch Bread Knife on Cambridge Streets
A Cambridge man narrowly avoided jail after being caught carrying a hefty 7-inch bread knife in public. Jack Walker, 27, was spotted by a sharp-eyed local who flagged down police, leading to his swift arrest.
Knife Incident Sparks Immediate Police Action
The drama unfolded on 25 July in Ditton Lane. Officers on patrol were alerted by a concerned resident who saw Walker openly brandishing the large blade. When confronted, Walker pulled the knife from his trousers but dropped it instantly as police approached.

Walker Slapped With Suspended Sentence and Fine
On 1 December, Walker faced Cambridge Magistrates’ Court. He pleaded guilty to two charges:
- Possession of a knife in a public place
- Committing an offence during the period of a suspended sentence
The court handed down a 123-day prison sentence suspended for 18 months. He was also fined £100 and ordered to complete a 12-month alcohol treatment programme.
Police Praise Vigilant Public
“Thanks to the vigilance of the public and their quick actions, we were able to stop Walker and remove the knife from the streets,” said PC Morgan Wood, the lead investigator.
This incident highlights the crucial role of alert locals in keeping Cambridge safe from knife crime.
