A twisted predator who raped and strangled an 18-year-old woman he met on a flat-sharing app has been locked up for 12 years.

Horrific Attack Hours After Meeting Victim

Mirza Begg, 34, from Small Heath, Birmingham, lured the teenager under the guise of offering her a place to stay. Just hours after their first meeting, he threatened to kill her during a brutal assault in his home.

The court heard how Begg showed his victim a chilling stash of knives, a sword, and bullets before the attack. The terrified woman was held against her will until she managed to alert a friend, leading to a police rescue.

Convicted on Multiple Charges

  • Rape
  • Two counts of assault by penetration
  • Threatening with a bladed weapon
  • Assault

Begg was convicted in September at Birmingham Crown Court after jurors found his claims of consensual sex false. The victim had reached out to him via the Roomies app before he picked her up in a borrowed car.

Past Record and Sentence Details

The predator has previous convictions for battery and theft. Begg must serve eight years behind bars before being eligible for release on licence.

“He set a deliberate trap for this extremely vulnerable young woman,” the court heard.
