Police have identified 77-year-old Hilkiah McLeggan as the man who was tragically stabbed to death in a violent incident at East Street Market in Walworth. The attack, which occurred at around 10:40 a.m. on Sunday, November 10, left two other men seriously injured, one of whom remains in critical condition.

Emergency services, including officers and paramedics from the London %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_0%% Service, attended the scene, but Hilkiah was sadly pronounced dead shortly after their arrival. His %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_1%% has been informed and is receiving support from specialist officers.

A man, 66-year-old Ali Musse of no fixed abode, has been charged with one count of %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_2%% and two counts of attempted murder in connection with the incident. Musse is scheduled to appear at Croydon Magistrates %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_3%% on Tuesday, November 12.

Chief Superintendent Seb Adjei-Addoh, who leads policing in %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_4%%, described the incident as “horrific,” stating, "This was a horrific incident where a man lost his life and two others received serious injuries. The incident has understandably caused concern among the local community."

An increased police presence will be maintained in %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_5%% to provide reassurance to residents and businesses. Chief Superintendent Adjei-Addoh also addressed social media speculation suggesting the attack may have been a terrorist incident, clarifying, "Our enquiries indicate this is not the case, and we ask the public not to speculate."

Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell thanked members of the public who assisted at the scene and urged anyone with information to come forward. "Our officers have worked quickly to investigate this tragic incident and secure these charges," she said.
