A security section leader at Asda Edmonton Green is being hailed a hero after going above and beyond to help an elderly customer who suddenly felt unwell while shopping.

Kwabena, affectionately known by colleagues and regulars as “KK”, showed incredible compassion when he noticed the customer — a man in his late 70s — looking unwell in-store. Without hesitation, KK brought him a chair, fetched water, and stayed by his side until he felt better.

But KK’s kindness didn’t stop there. Concerned about the man walking home alone, he took it upon himself to pay for the customer’s taxi fare out of his own pocket, ensuring he returned home safely.

“We have a lot of regular customers here; we are like one big family,” KK said humbly. “I just did what I felt was the right thing to do.”

Recognised for Kindness

KK’s selfless gesture has earned him a nomination for Asda’s Service Superstar award, thanks to Kay, the store’s customer trading manager, who praised him for his actions.

“KK’s a much-valued member of our team,” she said. “He always goes the extra mile, but this was something truly special. His kindness and empathy are exactly what makes our store feel like a community.”

Community Spirit at Its Best

The story has since touched hearts across the community, with colleagues and shoppers alike applauding KK’s thoughtful actions as a reminder of everyday heroism in unexpected places.

Asda has yet to announce the outcome of the award nomination, but for customers and staff at Edmonton Green, KK is already a winner.
