First Picture of Saudi Student Stabbed to Death on Cambridge Language Course

Overview

This is the first image of Mohammed Al-Qasim, a 20-year-old Saudi Arabian student who was tragically stabbed to death during an unprovoked attack in Cambridge.

Mohammed, who had arrived in the UK for a 10-week placement to study English at the EF International Language Campus, was found fatally injured in Mill Park, Cambridge on Friday night (2 August).

Emergency services were called to the scene at 11:27pm, but despite their efforts, Mohammed was pronounced dead at 12:01am.


Family’s Heartfelt Tribute

In a moving statement, Mohammed’s family said:

“Mohammed Yousef Al-Qasim was a young man brimming with enthusiasm, chivalry, and courage. A dutiful son, a loving brother, and the true spirit of our family.

He was cheerful, pure of heart, and always the first to offer help to others. He brought charisma and warmth to every gathering and became a pillar of support to his father, uncles, and siblings. His compassion left an unforgettable legacy in our hearts.”


School Statement

EF International Language Campus confirmed the death of their student, saying:

“We are deeply saddened to confirm that one of our adult students was fatally injured in a public space. We are working closely with Cambridgeshire Police, who have made arrests.

The safety and wellbeing of our students is our top priority. We are providing counselling and support to all those affected by this tragic event.”


Murder Investigation & Arrests

Cambridgeshire Police have charged a 21-year-old man from Cambridge with murder and possession of a knife in a public place. He appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court today (4 August).

A 50-year-old man, also from Cambridge, has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and remains in police custody.

Detectives believe the attack on Mohammed was unprovoked and are appealing for anyone with information or CCTV footage to come forward.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled for Tuesday (5 August).

A police spokesperson said:

“This was a horrific and senseless act of violence that has devastated a family and a community. Our investigation is ongoing, and we urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant footage to contact us immediately.”
