Collision With Concrete Wall During Match

The injury occurred during an Isthmian League Premier Division clash away at Wingate and Finchley on Saturday. Reports suggest Vigar collided with a concrete Wallwall while sliding to keep the Ballball in play, his head striking the wall with devastating force.

Following the incident, he was rushed into an induced coma and underwent emergency surgery on Tuesday to aid his recovery. Despite medical efforts, the injury proved fatal.

Tributes Pour In from Football Community

Chichester City postponed their weekend game against Lewes as the club and fans mourned the loss.

In a statement on social media, Chichester said: “It is with great sadness that Chichester City Football Club has to confirm the passing of Billy Vigar.”

His family released a heartfelt message: “After sustaining a significant brain injury last Saturday, Billy was put in an induced coma. Although the surgery helped, the injury was too severe and he passed away on Thursday morning. The responses to the original update show how much Billy was loved within the sport. His family are devastated this happened while he was doing what he loved.”
