Drug Dealer Locked Up but Stays in UK
Saleh Hussein Hamid, 25, a German citizen and convicted drug dealer, has avoided being kicked out of the UK. Despite being German, Hamid doesn’t speak the language well enough, which helped him claim ‘very significant obstacles’ to integrating back in Germany.
Caught Red-Handed in Leeds Sting
Hamid was jailed for 33 months in September 2022 after running drugs during an elaborate police sting. He handed over heroin and crack cocaine multiple times to an undercover officer. Police tried to stop him driving a Mercedes through Leeds, but Hamid ran three red lights and crashed into a metal post before being arrested.
Drug Ring Uncovered
- Described as a ‘ring and bring’ dealer by the court
- Found on foot with £300 cash and £240 worth of cannabis split for street sales
- Convicted on eight charges of supplying Class A and B drugs in West Yorkshire
- Admitted to dangerous driving and driving without insurance
Human Rights Appeal Saves Hamid
The Home Office wanted to deport Hamid to Germany after his release. But his lawyers fought back, arguing he came to the UK as a child and can’t speak German. They also warned he could face attacks from far-right groups and discrimination in Germany due to his Muslim faith.
The judge’s order to deport Hamid has since been overturned. A fresh hearing is expected next year to decide his fate.
