A grandmother has been tragically killed in a hit-and-run incident near Colindale Police Station, prompting a major investigation and a city-wide manhunt for the driver responsible.

 

 

The fatal collision occurred shortly before 3:10pm Grahame Park Way , not far from the RAF Museum and a local primary school. The victim, a woman in her 60s, was reportedly walking to collect her grandchild when she was struck by a car that had moments earlier failed to stop for police.


Despite the rapid response of officers from the nearby Colindale Police Station and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. She has not yet been formally identified, but tributes have begun to pour in from the local community, who have been left shaken by the tragedy.

The vehicle involved in the incident did not stop and was later found abandoned nearby. Detectives from the Metropolitan Police’s Alperton Traffic Unit are now working alongside the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) to determine the full circumstances of the fatal collision, given the prior police interaction.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said:

“Shortly before 15:10hrs on Tuesday, 25 March a car was in collision with a female pedestrian at the junction of Booth Road and Falcon Way, NW9.

The car had driven away from a police vehicle prior to the collision taking place.

Officers provided treatment at the scene before the arrival of the London Ambulance Service. However, despite the best efforts of all emergency services, the woman died at the scene.

The car did not stop but was found abandoned a short time later. Work is ongoing to locate the occupants. No arrests have been made and enquiries continue.”

A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service added:

“We were called at 3.08pm today (25 March) to reports of a road traffic collision on Grahame Park Way, NW9.

We sent a number of resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, an advanced paramedic, a clinical team manager and an incident response officer. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.

Very sadly, despite the best efforts of our crews, a woman was pronounced dead at the scene.”

The area around the scene remains cordoned off while specialist collision investigators collect evidence and review CCTV. The IOPC has been formally notified due to the involvement of police prior to the incident.

Transport disruptions and road closures are still in effect, with police urging residents to avoid the area.
