A fire broke out in Woodhatch, causing conifers and a fence to catch alight near a local kebab shop. Residents were quick to respond, and the fire brigade arrived promptly to tackle the blaze.

Incident Details

The fire started near a house opposite the Woodhatch Kebab Shop, with the flames spreading to the conifer trees and a fence. Several witnesses initially thought it might be a bonfire but soon realized the situation was more serious.

One eyewitness, Samantha Williams, who was walking her dogs, said:

“I just thought it was a bonfire at first, but then quickly realized it wasn’t. I called the fire brigade too, and well done to the Woodhatch Kebab Shop for doing all they could.

Emergency Response

The fire brigade arrived at the scene and worked to put out the flames, using hoses to control the fire. According to witness Amy Grice, they were still hosing down the area when she drove by.

“It looked to be a garden fire. Sadly, someone’s fence and the conifers around it had caught alight. The fire brigade were there, so assuming they have got it under control,” she said.

Community Reactions

The local community expressed relief that everyone got out safely. Resident Kelly Abernethy confirmed:

“It’s the house opposite the kebab shop. Everyone got out okay, thank God.”

There was also speculation about the cause, with some mistakenly suggesting it could be linked to an electric car fire. However, Matthew Holdsworth, a local admin, clarified:

“Exceedingly unlikely to be an electric car, but please don’t let wild guesses get in the way of fact.”

Road Closures

According to Suzanne Peters, the road was still shut at 9:15 pm when she passed by. Another resident, Frank Burch, who saw the aftermath from a bus, mentioned that several fire engines were at the scene, but he did not notice any visible smoke.

Quick Action Prevents Disaster

One heroic act was performed by David Burt, whose husband rescued two women from the house, as they were unaware of the fire.

“The conifers went up, and my hubby got the two ladies out. They were unaware of the fire,” Burt said.

Cause Under Investigation

The cause of the fire has not yet been officially confirmed. Authorities are investigating to determine what sparked the blaze.

Residents praised the quick response from both the community and emergency services, ensuring that no one was harmed. The Woodhatch Kebab Shop staff were also commended for their efforts to help during the incident.

Further updates will follow as more information becomes available.
