A man is in custody following swift police action and teamwork in Devizes earlier today (12 October), after a reported assault stemming from a road rage incident.
At around midday, officers received a report of an assault in Steele Close, Devizes, which was linked to a road rage altercation that occurred on London Road.
Thanks to prompt enquiries, officers were able to locate the suspect in his vehicle on New Park Street. During the stop, a police vehicle was rammed twice by the suspect, a man in his 20s, who then fled on foot. However, officers successfully tracked him down and arrested him.
The suspect was taken into custody on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm, failing to stop for police, and dangerous driving. He is currently being questioned by officers.
The victim of the assault, also a man in his 20s, was not reported to have suffered any injuries.
County Inspector Gav Brewster praised the efforts of the officers involved, saying: “This was excellent teamwork by various units to locate and arrest the suspect. In the space of around 90 minutes, officers were able to locate the suspect in his vehicle and apprehend him, as well as secure the initial scene in Steele Close and attain CCTV footage of the incident.”
Inspector Brewster also acknowledged that the incident took place in a busy area, adding: “If you have any concerns or anything you wish to talk about, please don’t hesitate to speak to one of our officers.”
The investigation is ongoing, and police are urging anyone with further information to come forward.
