A man who raped and strangled a woman during a violent attack has been sentenced to more than 14 years in prison.

Kaymore Cham, known as “Kay,” 44, from %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_0%%, was convicted after pleading not guilty to charges stemming from an incident in Sunbury-on-Thames on November 11, 2023.

Cham sexually assaulted the victim at her home before chasing her into the %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_1%%, where he continued a violent assault involving non-fatal strangulation. Although witnesses saw the assault outside, the rape occurred privately indoors.

Despite initially denying having sexual contact with the victim, Cham’s false statements were disproven by forensic evidence. His involvement in a separate sexual assault case investigated by the %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_2%% further strengthened the prosecution’s case against him.

Cham was found guilty on all counts and sentenced on Friday, March 7, to 14.5 years imprisonment, comprising 8.5 years for the %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_3%% offences and an additional 6 years for the Met Police case. He will serve an additional 4.5 years on an extended licence.

In a powerful recorded victim impact statement presented to the %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_4%%, the victim shared her harrowing experience:

"The lead up to court was nerve-racking and scary. I’d never been in court, let alone as a victim. But with the support from officers, Rachel, and Sage, I found the strength to get through it. Hearing the verdict left me confused, angry, hurt—but also proud that justice was served, ensuring he couldn’t harm anyone else.

"The past 14 months were the worst of my life, severely affecting my mental %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_5%%. I constantly questioned why this happened, blaming myself for not stopping it. While I may never find all the answers, I’ve accepted it wasn’t my fault and am gradually rebuilding my life.”

Detective Constable Charlotte Money from Surrey Police's Sexual Offences %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_6%% Team commented:

"Cham is a dangerous individual who resorts to %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_7%% and intimidation to achieve his aims. In November 2023, he carried out a brutal attack on a woman who clearly rejected him. Despite her refusal, he pursued his own twisted perception of their relationship.

"We commend her courage in speaking out about her ordeal. Cham’s conviction for offences against multiple women across different %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_8%% jurisdictions reveals a disturbing pattern of predatory behaviour.

"This sentence underscores our commitment to treating sexual violence seriously. We urge any victim of sexual assault to come forward. You will be believed, supported, and we will tirelessly pursue justice for you."
