A man was safely detained on Sunday night following a tense eight-hour stand-off with Metropolitan Police officers in a residential property on Bletchley Road, just yards from Goldfinch Primary School on Blegborough Road in Wandsworth.

Emergency services were first alerted on Sunday morning after reports emerged that a man inside a multi-dwelling property was threatening to blow it up.

Specialist negotiators and officers from the Met's Territorial Support Group (TSG) were quickly deployed to the scene.

As a precautionary measure, all residents in the building were evacuated, and gas supplies to the property were isolated to eliminate any potential danger.

Police said the man appeared to be experiencing a serious mental %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_1%% crisis.

Negotiators worked throughout the day in an attempt to resolve the situation peacefully.

However, after several hours of unsuccessful dialogue, TSG officers equipped with riot shields stormed the property at approximately 10:30pm.

The man was safely detained and taken from the scene in an %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_2%% under police escort. No injuries were reported during the operation.
A %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_3%% cordon that had remained in place throughout the day was lifted shortly after the resolution of the incident.

The %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_4%% have not yet released an official statement, though further updates are expected in due course.
Local residents praised the swift and professional %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_5%% by emergency services, crediting them with ensuring the safety of the neighbourhood, especially given the close proximity of the primary school.
