Facial Recognition Zeroes in on Troublemakers

The Met is unleashing Live Facial Recognition (LFR) at two key entry points to Emirates Stadium this Sunday, targeting known offenders before they strike. Since January, LFR has helped officers nab over 1,300 dangerous criminals, including more than 100 linked to serious violence against women.

Real-Time Policing Powers Up

Officers on the ground will sport live-streaming body cams, feeding sharp footage straight to control rooms to enable lightning-fast response. Specially trained cops will also carry SelectaDNA spray—a unique marker that tags troublemakers during any flare-up, making it easier for forensic teams to track them down later using UV light.

Keeping Fans Safe and Sound

Deputy Assistant Commissioner James Harman said: “The safety of football fans is our top priority. Using tech like LFR helps officers prevent crime and keep the public protected so everyone can enjoy the game.”

Lindsey Chiswick, LFR lead for Met and UK, added: “LFR is a game-changer that lets us find people wanted or under court restrictions. We only use it when intelligence shows a threat to public safety, ensuring a balanced approach.”
