A prisoner who murdered another inmate using furniture as weapons at HMP Maidstone has been convicted following a trial.
Sasan Rabat, 27, attacked fellow prisoner Stefan Adi with brutal force using a broken chair and a shattered ceramic toilet lid. The violent assault took place in Rabat's cell on December 9, 2021.
Authorities discovered Rabat seated calmly in his cell with Adi’s lifeless body concealed in a corner, having attempted to hide the victim’s body beneath various pieces of furniture, including a locker and table. The brutal attack involved multiple injuries, including blows inflicted by the broken pieces of a ceramic toilet lid.
Rabat was arrested at the scene and charged with %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_0%%. Despite initially denying responsibility, Rabat was later found guilty by a jury after compelling forensic evidence linked him directly to the %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_1%%.
During the trial, it emerged that Rabat had violently assaulted Mr Adi using a broken chair, locker, and the ceramic fragments of the toilet lid, causing severe head injuries and internal damage. He had attempted to justify his actions as self-defence, claiming he had been threatened.

Rabat remains in custody awaiting sentencing. The judge described the murder as an exceptionally violent act, stressing the severity and brutality of the assault.
