Three robbers stormed into a Nottingham student's bedroom and made off with nearly £2,000 before being locked up. Jonel St Catherine, his brother Jaheem, and accomplice Solomon Schaff launched the terrifying raid in a Castle Gate student apartment building on 24 April.
Knife Held to Throat in Shocking Hold-Up
The trio, armed with a 12-inch kitchen knife, climbed to the fourth floor just before 1pm. They banged on the door of a 19-year-old student and forced their way inside.
They pressed the knife against the student's throat and demanded access to his phone. The terrified victim was made to unlock his device while the robbers transferred £1,900 from his online bank accounts.
Beaten Victim Left With Cuts and Bruises
- The attackers punched and kicked the student before fleeing in an Uber taxi.
- They also swiped his passport during the brazen robbery.
- The victim suffered cuts and bruises but managed to identify one robber as a local drug dealer to police.
Police Track Down Crooks, Seize Evidence
Detectives launched an investigation and raided a property in %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_0%% Road, Sherwood. There, they seized the stolen passport, clothes matching CCTV footage, and a mobile phone containing video of the raid.
The St Catherine brothers and Schaff were arrested and all pleaded guilty to robbery at Nottingham Crown Court. They were sentenced on 9 October, bringing a violent nightmare to an end for the young student.
