Station Commander Statement

Station Commander Darren McTernan, who is at the scene, said:

“Crews are working hard to bring this fire under control. High Street North will remain closed while the incident is ongoing. Please avoid the area and we advise people to keep windows and doors closed due to large amounts of smoke.”

Firefighters are using main jets, hose reels, and aerial operations from a 32-metre turntable ladder to contain the blaze and protect nearby properties.

Public Impact

High Street North remains shut to all traffic and pedestrians, and the fire is causing significant smoke across the East Ham area. Local businesses and residents are urged to stay indoors and keep ventilation to a minimum.

Control Officers received 12 emergency calls shortly after the fire broke out, rapidly mobilising multiple crews to the scene.

Ongoing Investigation

The cause of the fire is not yet known. Fire investigators will begin assessments once the scene is made safe.
