Firefighters battled a major blaze that tore through a ground-floor flat in an 18-storey residential block on New Kent Road, Southwark, late on Thursday night.
Fire Response
- Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were deployed to the scene.
- Crews responded after London Fire Brigade (LFB) received 12 emergency calls, with the first one coming in at 11:02 PM on Thursday, February 6, 2025.
- Firefighters from Old Kent Road, Dowgate, Lambeth, and Peckham fire stations arrived swiftly to contain the flames.
Extent of the Damage
The fire completely destroyed a four-room ground-floor flat in the high-rise building. However, no injuries have been reported.
Blaze Brought Under Control
Fire crews worked quickly, successfully bringing the fire under control by 12:12 AM—just over an hour after the first emergency call.
Investigation Underway
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and London Fire Brigade’s Fire Investigation Team is now working to determine how it started.
