Five people have been taken to hospital following a serious residential fire on Redwood Road in Walsall on Saturday evening (March 15).
Emergency services were called to the scene at 10:16pm, with West Midlands Ambulance Service deploying a major response, including five ambulances, four paramedic officers, the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), and two Critical Care Cars from Midlands Air Ambulance.
Child Sustains Potentially Life-Threatening Injuries
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman confirmed that nine patients were assessed at the scene, including a child with potentially life-threatening injuries.
“He received advanced trauma care from ambulance staff at the scene before being conveyed to Birmingham Children’s Hospital with medics travelling on board for further treatment en route,” the spokesperson said.
Smoke Inhalation Victims Treated
Four other individuals — two women, a man, and a teenage male — were also taken to Walsall Manor Hospital after suffering the effects of smoke inhalation.
Four Others Discharged at the Scene
A further four patients were assessed at the scene but did not require hospital treatment. They were discharged with self-care advice.
Ongoing Investigation
Firefighters remained at the scene for several hours tackling the blaze and ensuring the area was safe. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by fire authorities.
