For the first time, the woman mauled to death by a dog in Caterham has been identified.
Natasha Johnston of London has been identified as the woman killed in a dog attack. On January 12, the 28-year-old was walking a number of dogs around Caterham Viewpoint, at Gravelly Hill, in Caterham – just a short drive from the Croydon border – when she was mauled to death.

An inquest into the death of the woman, who was reportedly a professional dog walker, was opened today at Surrey Coroner’s Court after police closed their criminal investigation, which resulted in no prosecutions. However, eight dogs were seized at the scene and are still being held in police custody pending a forensic investigation.

According to Surrey Police, none of the dogs were prohibited breeds. Previously, the victim’s family expressed their grief at the unexpected loss to their family. “This is an extremely difficult time for us,” they said in a statement.

“As well as dealing with this sudden loss in our family, the significant level of media interest and the graphic nature of some of the reporting, has been a source of additional distress. We continue to request that our privacy be respected during this difficult time.”

This is a tragic incident in which a young woman lost her life,” said senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Josephine Horner.

“I know it has caused real concern locally and I thank the community for bearing with us whilst we conducted our inquiries. The criminal investigation is now complete, and the information gathered will be forwarded to the Surrey coroner to aid in the coronial process.
