A ruthless armed robber struck two Swanley businesses within hours, threatening staff with a gun and a knife — and even warning he would use acid on them.

Gunpoint robbery at Domino's Pizza

On the night of 23 March 2024, Karl Kaynar burst into Domino's Pizza on the High Street around 9:40pm. Wielding what looked like a real firearm, he demanded cash. Clambering over the counter, Kaynar forced open the till and snatched roughly £400. During the terrifying hold-up, he shouted chilling threats, asking victims, "Do you want to die?"

Knife and acid threats at Asda petrol station

The very next morning, Kaynar hit again. At 6:30am, the 42-year-old targeted the Asda petrol station on London Road. This time, he menaced employees with a kitchen knife and a broken paving slab. He even threatened to throw acid at one worker's face before fleeing with thousands of pounds in cash.

Quick police action leads to arrest

Police tracked Kaynar down later that day. Searches near the crime scenes uncovered the "firearm" — actually an air weapon — plus the bag he carried during the second robbery. A knife was also found at a Swanley address linked to him.

Kaynar, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court to two robberies, possession of an imitation firearm, and carrying a knife in public. He also admitted extra theft and drug offences, plus a third armed robbery on 22 March, deemed the most serious by the court.

Jailed for 9 years and counting

On 15 October 2025, Kaynar was sentenced to nine years and four months behind bars. Having spent 18 months on remand already, he must serve an additional 86 days for breaching a suspended sentence. After release, he faces a four-year licence period.

Detective Constable Rosie Acton said: "Kaynar's actions left his victims in genuine fear for their lives. The gun may not have been real, but it looked frighteningly authentic. He held a kitchen knife to a shop assistant's back and made chilling threats about acid attacks."

"Had we not acted fast, Kaynar would have targeted more victims. I hope this sentence reassures Swanley residents and workers that justice has been done."
