A police officer has suffered serious injuries after being attacked during a stop in West Croydon. A 27-year-old man has been charged with grievous bodily harm (GBH) following the incident.
At around 5:56pm on %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_0%%, 7 May, Metropolitan Police officers were alerted to suspicious behaviour involving a man on Station Road, West Croydon.
During the encounter, the man became violent, %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_1%%. Although the injuries were not deemed life-threatening or life-changing, the %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_2%%.
The suspect was tasered at the %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_3%% of GBH.
Suspect Charged
Police have confirmed that Asif Ahmadziy, 27, of South %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_4%%, Birmingham, was later charged with GBH the same evening.
He appeared at Croydon Magistrates' Court the %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_5%% day.
Police Statement
A spokesperson for the %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_6%%:
"Our %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_7%% of suspicious behaviour. Unfortunately, one %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_8%% while carrying out his duty. We are %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_9%% our colleague as they recover."
