A Brighton burglar, released early from prison, has been sent back to jail after committing two further burglaries.

William Djama, 36, who was previously jailed in 2023 for a string of burglaries in the city, was out on licence when he broke into two flats—one in Freshfield Road on September 28 and another in Queensway on October 5.

During these break-ins, Djama stole a variety of items including Kindles, a laptop, sets of speakers, a radio, a mobile phone, earphones, and a security camera. Some of the stolen goods were later recovered from pawn shops in the area.

Following his latest crimes, Djama was recalled to prison and subsequently pleaded guilty to the burglaries at Lewes Crown Court on November 7. He was sentenced to 40 months’ imprisonment.

Police Response

Detective Constable James Botting of Sussex Police addressed the case, stating:

“We understand the terrible impact burglary has on victims, particularly the level of harm caused by prolific offenders like William Djama.

“We will always do everything in our power to bring offenders to justice and remain committed to attending every report of residential burglary in person.”

Support for Victims

Sussex Police urged anyone affected by burglary or other crimes to come forward, emphasizing the importance of reporting incidents:

  • Online: Visit the Sussex Police website.
  • Non-emergency calls: Dial 101.
  • Emergencies: Call 999 immediately.

Djama’s case underscores the challenges of managing early release programmes for repeat offenders and the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address residential burglary.
