A 58-year-old england/Waleswales/england/wales/british/”>british/”>British tourist drowned off the sunny shores of Cap Sant Pere beach/”>beach/”>beach, Cambrils, Spain. His wife spotted him floating lifeless in the Waterwater and raised the alarm in a desperate bid to save him. But despite frantic efforts by police and a hotel lifeguard, he was pronounced dead at the scene just before 3pm on Tuesday.

His wife suffered a panic attack and was treated nearby. At the time, a yellow flag warned swimmers to be cautious.

Heart Attack Suspected, Lifeguard Coverage Limited

Authorities suspect the Brit suffered a cardiac arrest while swimming, though exactly how he returned to shore/”>shore remains unclear. His identity has not been released.

Cap Sant Pere lacks lifeguard patrols outside peak season, with the closest team stationed at Vilafortuny Beach. Reports suggest lifeguards weren’t initially alerted but rushed over after hearing sirens.

Just 15 minutes away, Llarga Beach in Salou saw a recent tragedy when siblings Ameiya, 13, and Ricardo Junior, 11, drowned in late July while on holiday with family.

“Maya was intelligent, thoughtful, and growing into a strong young woman. Ricardo Junior was playful, kind, and always smiling,” said cousin Holly Marquis-Johnson. “Their absence has left an unbearable silence for their whole family, who shared an unbreakable bond.”

 

These heartbreaking incidents shine a harsh spotlight on the risks holidaymakers face in Spain’s idyllic yet sometimes dangerous waters.
