A significant grass fire broke out on Friday afternoon (18 April) across Walthamstow Marshes, prompting a major emergency response.

The fire, was tracked to near  Sandy Lane in Walthamstow East Londonand  required four fire engines to tackle the blaze, with crews scene at the nearby Lea Bridge Ice Rink as a holding area

Crews from the London Fire Brigade (LFB) worked quickly to contain the flames, preventing the fire from spreading further across the marshland and causing additional damage.

The blaze, which had the potential to affect a much larger area, was brought under control thanks to the swift and coordinated efforts of firefighters on the ground.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police were also called to the scene to assist fire crews with managing the area and ensuring public safety. No injuries have been reported at this time.

The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed and an investigation may follow.
