Detectives swooped after a suspected arson at a %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_0%% mosque sparked outrage. Four men are now in police custody as the investigation heats up.

Masked Attackers Caught on Camera

Emergency crews were scrambled to a mosque on Phyllis Avenue around 9.50pm on Saturday, 4 October, following reports of a fire. Shocking footage surfaced online showing two masked figures in dark clothing douse the front door with accelerant before setting it ablaze.

Firefighters from East Sussex Fire and Rescue raced to the scene and quickly put out the flames. Thankfully, no one was hurt inside, but the fire caused major damage to the mosque and a nearby car.

Police Launch Major Probe, Four Men Held

Since Monday, detectives with the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team have arrested four men aged 22, 25, 27, and 46 on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. All four are out on conditional bail while inquiries continue.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Cullimore said: "Our investigation continues at pace with house-to-house visits, forensic work, and intelligence gathering. We are determined to find and arrest those responsible for this shocking attack. We urge anyone with information to come forward."

Superintendent Rachel Swinney added: "We will engage closely with all affected communities to support them and ensure their concerns are addressed."
