A serious collision on the A14 westbound near Newmarket has prompted a large-scale emergency response and extensive road closures, causing significant disruption to traffic in the area.
Cambridgeshire Constabulary is leading a multi-agency operation in response to the incident, with support from the East of England Ambulance Service, Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service, and East Anglian Air Ambulance.
The collision, which occurred earlier today, initially affected the westbound carriageway. However, at approximately 18:25, authorities made the decision to also close the eastbound carriageway between Junction 35 and Junction 37. This closure will remain in effect until specialist resources required by the emergency services arrive at the scene.

As a consequence of these closures, the A11 northbound has also been shut between the A1304 (Six Mile Bottom) and the A14. National Highways Traffic Officers are on site, assisting emergency services with traffic management.
Diversions have been put in place to help manage the flow of traffic:
– Westbound travellers are advised to exit at Junction 37 and follow a specific route via the A142, A1123, and A10 before rejoining the A14 at Junction 33.
– Eastbound traffic is being diverted using local routes at the scene.
– Northbound A11 traffic is also being redirected through local routes.
Motorists are strongly advised to allow extra time for their journeys, consider alternative routes, or delay travel if possible. The situation remains ongoing, and further updates are expected as the emergency response continues.
