A man has been arrested following a serious crash on the M2 motorway that resulted in two children being hospitalised. Emergency services responded to the coastbound carriageway of the M2, situated between Junction 4 for Hempstead and Junction 5 for Sittingbourne, at approximately 5:10 am on Thursday, December 28.

The collision, which involved a grey Vauxhall Astra and a red Citroen Berlingo, necessitated the closure of the motorway from Junction 3 for Blue Bell Hill for over seven hours. The motorway was reopened just after midday.

Two children who were involved in the crash have since been discharged from the hospital. They were initially in a serious but stable condition following the incident. Similarly, the driver of the Astra, who had sustained minor injuries, has also been discharged.

In connection with the collision, the driver of the Astra was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has been released on bail until March 26.
