A man has been charged with kidnap after allegedly assaulting a teenage girl and forcing her into a property in Newton Aycliffe.
The incident occurred on Thursday, February 27, when police received a report that a teenager had been attacked on the %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_0%% shortly before 10pm. It is claimed that the victim was then forcibly taken into a property but managed to %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_1%% and raise the alarm at a nearby address.
Following a swift police investigation, 22-year-old Matthew Hindhaugh, of %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_2%%, was arrested that night. He has since been charged with kidnap, assault, possession of an offensive weapon, and non-fatal strangulation.
Hindhaugh has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_3%% today.
Police Reassure Public
Detective Chief Inspector Simon Turner, from %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_4%% Constabulary, described the incident as “isolated but understandably very shocking and upsetting” for the victim and her family.
He added: "Specially trained officers are currently supporting the victim and ensuring she receives the help and support she needs. A man has been charged in connection with the incident, and I would like to reassure people that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with it."
