A 37-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of a 62-year-old man in Heanor, Derbyshire, earlier this week.
Lee Young, of Howitt Street, Heanor, was arrested on Monday and subsequently charged with the murder of Shaun Harriman. Young appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on October 3, where the case was adjourned, and he was remanded in custody.
The charges stem from an incident that occurred on Monday, September 30. Police were called to an address on Howitt Street just before 11:55 BST, following reports that a man had been found dead. The deceased was later identified as 62-year-old Shaun Harriman.
Detective Chief Inspector Matt Croome, who is leading the investigation, sought to reassure the public. I appreciate that incidents such as this are worrying to people living in the area, but I’d like to reassure the public that those involved were known to each other and there is no wider risk,” he stated.
DCI Croome also expressed gratitude to those who have already come forward with information and encouraged others who may have relevant information to contact the police.
The family of Mr. Harriman has been notified and is receiving support from specialist officers during this difficult time.
Authorities are urging anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward and contact the police.
