In a recent development from Warwick Crown Court, Erin Mamli, aged 26 and of no fixed abode, was sentenced on Tuesday, May 14, for his involvement in the cultivation of cannabis. Mamli, who had previously pleaded guilty to the production of cannabis in March, was handed a 14-month prison sentence for his actions.
The case unfolded in March when law enforcement officers responded to a tip-off regarding a potential cannabis grow at a residence on Claremont Road in Rugby. Upon arrival, officers detected the distinct odour of cannabis emanating from the property and heard the telltale humming of fans used in indoor cultivation operations.
Efforts to communicate with the occupant of the house led to a chase, with the individual attempting to flee but being swiftly apprehended by law enforcement. Subsequent entry into the property revealed a sophisticated cannabis cultivation setup, spanning five rooms including the basement and loft. A total of 209 cannabis plants were seized, with an estimated street value of approximately £125,000.
Detective Constable Matt Rapkins from the Rugby Serious and Organised Crime Team emphasised the significance of Mamli’s conviction in the broader effort to combat drug distribution in the area. He credited the vigilance of community members in reporting suspicious activities, highlighting the collaborative approach taken by law enforcement and the public in tackling drug-related offences.
Rapkins also underscored the detrimental impact of cannabis production, citing its association with increased violent crime, antisocial behaviour, and the exploitation of vulnerable individuals. He warned against underestimating the seriousness of cannabis-related crimes, emphasizing that those involved in its production are often organized and dangerous criminals profiting at the expense of others’ well-being.

Alternatively, individuals can make anonymous reports to the independent charity Crimestoppers, ensuring confidentiality and providing valuable information to law enforcement without fear of retribution.
As Mamli begins his prison term, this case serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crime in Rugby and the importance of community cooperation in maintaining public safety.
