In a significant development, a 52-year-old man named Mark Fordham has been handed an Order for Lifelong Restriction (OLR) alongside a custodial sentence of two years and three months. The sentencing, which took place at the High Court in Edinburgh on Thursday, November 9, 2023, came after Fordham pleaded guilty to charges related to online sexual abuse and exploitation.

Fordham’s arrest followed a meticulous intelligence-led operation by the police. Detective Inspector Bruce Ward emphasised that Fordham is a dangerous and predatory individual who will now face the consequences of his despicable actions.

While online offenders may believe they are anonymous, Ward reiterated that law enforcement agencies possess the tools and expertise to track them down. He assured the public that regardless of the measures taken to avoid detection, individuals cannot hide behind computer screens forever.

Protecting children and bringing those involved in such abhorrent crimes to justice remains a top priority for the police. Any form of child sexual abuse is considered a serious criminal offence, and officers are fully committed to addressing it. Detective Inspector Ward urged anyone with concerns about a child at risk of abuse or potential victims to contact the authorities immediately.
