The body of a man was discovered this morning behind a row of shops on St James’s Road, West Croydon. Police and emergency services remain at the scene as investigations continue.

Discovery and Emergency Response

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that officers were alerted to the scene at 9.03am on Monday, 7 April, following a concern for welfare call. The location, a yard area on Wellington Road behind the shops on St James’s Road, was cordoned off as police and London Ambulance Service attended.

Upon arrival, paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased, and the next of kin are being informed.

Investigation Status

In a statement, Scotland Yard said:
Police were called at 9.03am on Monday, 7 April to Wellington Road, Croydon, following the concern for welfare of a man. London Ambulance Service attended and a man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His death is being treated as unexpected but not deemed to be suspicious. A scene remains in place at the location and enquiries are ongoing.”

The Metropolitan Police have stated that the death, while unexpected, is not currently being treated as suspicious. However, a police cordon remains in place as officers work to gather more information.

Community Reaction

Local residents have expressed shock at the discovery. One shop owner from St James’s Road said:
“It’s unsettling to hear something like this has happened just behind the shops. Police have been here all morning, and the area is taped off.”
