Kent Police have seized seven e-scooters during a major operation to tackle the illegal use of electric scooters in Margate following community safety concerns.
%%UKNIP_ANCHOR_0%% on Monday 28 April 2025, after residents raised fears about reckless riding around the town, particularly in busy pedestrian areas.
During the operation, officers patrolled areas including Northdown Road, %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_1%%, where several riders were caught flouting the law — some seen dangerously riding on pavements, while others had multiple passengers including young children.
“Serious injury risk to children”
Inspector Richard Batten from Kent %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_2%% said:
"During the operation, we stopped a scooter where an %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_3%% positioned at the front. A collision could have %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_4%%
Inspector Batten %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_5%% parents that e-scooters may seem like fun but are illegal on public roads, pavements, and cycle lanes — and can only be legally used on private land with permission.
No trials in Kent
%%UKNIP_ANCHOR_6%% is not among the areas participating in the Government’s e-scooter trial scheme, meaning all privately-owned e-scooters used on public roads are illegal and can be seized.
"We want to make it clear – anyone found riding e-scooters illegally in %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_7%% will face action,” added Inspector Batten.
%%UKNIP_ANCHOR_8%% throughout the summer to clamp down on dangerous riding, urging residents to think twice before purchasing e-scooters for children.
