Pervert Targets Child in Swale

Nicholas Kerswell, 34, from Eastchurch on the Isle of Sheppey, has been jailed for almost four years after sexually assaulting a young girl in Swale on 26 July 2025.

The shocking attack was reported to a relative, who quickly alerted the police. Officers wasted no time tracking Kerswell down, leading to his swift arrest and charge for assaulting a child under 13 by touching.

More Crimes Surface – Burglary Guilty Plea

At his first court appearance at Medway Magistrates' Court on 28 July, Kerswell pleaded guilty to the sexual assault. He also admitted to a separate burglary offence related to a break-in on Bridgewater Road, Sheerness, on 28 March 2023.

Heavy Sentence Handed Down

On Tuesday 30 September, Maidstone Crown Court jailed Kerswell for three years for the sexual assault and added another 10 months for the burglary.

He will also face a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a restraining order upon release, keeping him away from potential victims.

Police Praise Victim's Bravery

"Kerswell's appalling actions have had a serious impact on his victim and we're pleased to see he will serve serious time in prison," said Detective Constable James Horne.

"I'd like to commend the victim for her bravery in coming forward. Her account has helped us stop him from offending for the foreseeable future."
