Southport experienced a night of chaos as a series of violent incidents left several police officers injured, cars set alight, and shops looted. The unrest began earlier this evening and has prompted a large-scale response from local and neighbouring police forces.
Merseyside Police confirmed that the situation escalated rapidly, resulting in injuries to officers and significant property damage. A number of vehicles were torched, and at least one shop was broken into and looted by individuals taking advantage of the disorder.
In a statement, Merseyside Police said: “A number of officers have been injured, cars set alight, and a shop broken into and looted in Southport this evening. This is completely unacceptable. The disturbances have placed an additional strain on police resources. Officers who had already completed their shifts have been called back to duty to support their colleagues in managing the situation and restoring order. Mutual aid is being provided by officers from Greater Manchester Police, Lancashire Police, Cheshire Police, and North Wales Police.

One local shop owner, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “It’s heartbreaking to see this kind of violence in our community. My shop has been completely ransacked, and I fear for the safety of my family and neighbours.
