A 14-year-old boy, Kelyan Bokassa, tragically lost his life after being stabbed 27 times on a bus in Woolwich while on his way home from school. The incident occurred on January 7 on the route 472 bus on Woolwich Church Street, just before 2:30 pm.

Charges and Court Hearings

Two teenagers have been charged in connection with Kelyan’s death:

  • A 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Bromley Youth Court on Thursday, charged with murder. He was remanded in custody to a youth detention centre and is scheduled to appear at the Old Bailey on Monday.
  • A 15-year-old boy has also been charged with murder and appeared later on Thursday at the same court.

A 44-year-old woman, arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, has been released under investigation.

Incident Details

Police were called to the scene on Woolwich Church Street, near Woolwich Ferry, where Kelyan had been attacked. Despite the efforts of medics, the aspiring rapper succumbed to his injuries, including a fatal wound to his femoral artery.

Tributes to Kelyan

Kelyan’s mother, Mary Bokassa, described her son as a “kind and caring” boy who loved football. Speaking about her loss, she said:

“I can’t believe he is gone. I cannot believe it.”

A vigil held last week at a church near the bus stop where the attack occurred saw friends and family gather to honor Kelyan. One friend shared:

“He had a pure heart and would always be there for you.”

Investigation

The Metropolitan Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
