Henry Cox Found Guilty of Multiple Offences Following High-Speed Chase
In a significant ruling today, 18-year-old Henry Cox was banned from driving for two years after a reckless incident where he crashed into a police car in Gosport. The event, which took place on 6 May, led to a series of charges against the young driver.
Details of the Incident
The pursuit began when Cox, driving a Ford Transit flatbed along Eastbourne Avenue, failed to heed police instructions to stop. His dangerous driving included speeding and cutting corners, culminating in a collision with a police vehicle coming from the opposite direction. This crash caused substantial damage to the police car.
Post-Collision Developments
Following the collision, Cox abandoned the vehicle near St Vincent College and attempted to flee on foot. He was subsequently charged with dangerous driving, driving without insurance, driving while disqualified, and possession of cannabis.
Court Proceedings and Verdict
Cox was found guilty of all charges when he appeared in court on 8 November. His appearance in Portsmouth Crown Court today resulted in a two-year driving ban. He is also required to retake his driving test following the ban period.
Sentencing and Rehabilitation
In addition to the driving ban, Cox was given a two-year Community Order, which mandates him to complete 200 hours of unpaid work and participate in 30 days of Rehabilitation Activities. Moreover, he was ordered to pay £500 in costs.
