Wiltshire Police are appealing for information after a number of dead ducks were found in woodland near Station Road, Calne, on January 3, 2025, at approximately 8 a.m. The birds were discovered by a member of the public near the skatepark in Castlefields Park.

Disturbing Details

The Wiltshire Rural Crime Team has launched an investigation after discovering that the breasts of the birds had been removed. An X-ray examination revealed that the ducks had been shot with an unidentified weapon.

It remains unclear whether the ducks were killed locally or transported to the area and abandoned.

Police Statement

PCSO Mark Cook of the Calne Neighbourhood Policing Team commented:
“We are greatly concerned about this incident. The circumstances suggest deliberate harm to the ducks, which is troubling to the community and to us as investigators.”

He continued:
“We are working closely with the Wiltshire Rural Crime Team, and additional patrols have been deployed in Castlefields Park and Station Road. We urge the public to report any suspicious activity around local waterways.”

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed suspicious behavior in the Station Road or Castlefields Park area, or who has information that could assist the investigation, to come forward.
