On Wednesday, 26 July 2023, Police witnessed a silver Mercedes C Class driving erratically through Esher. Police saw the driver speed through a red light whilst holding a mobile phone to his face.

When police stopped the vehicle, Nikolay Gyaurov, 26 (8/5/1997), from Tolworth was in the driver’s seat. Due to his manner of driving, he was asked to do a drugs wipe, which returned positive for cocaine. He was arrested for driving whilst over the specified drug limit. Following checks on his driving licence, he was no trace on any police systems. When police searched Gyuarov, he was found to be wearing an immigration issued ankle bracelet, and when further asked, he confirmed that the driving licence, and details on it, were in fact false.

Further checks showed Gyuarov to already be serving a disqualification from driving until 2026 for previous drug driving offences. He had no insurance as a result, and his insurance was taken out in his fake name.

When police searched his vehicle, they located £1250 in cash, grip seal bags with white powder in the driver door and further unused grip seal bags, needles and syringes were located in the boot. Gyuarov was further arrested on suspicion of being concerned in supply of Class A drugs, possessing fraudulent identity documents with intent, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance. His car was seized and the cash was subjected to a POCA detention order.

He was remanded into custody whilst the investigation progressed. On 18 September 2023, following a guilty plea for being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs. Gyaurov was sentenced to three years imprisonment for this. He also pleaded guilty for disqualified driving and no insurance and was sentenced to 4 months imprisonment to run concurrently.

The investigation continued into the outstanding matters and, on Thursday, 11 April, Nikolay Gyaurov attended Guildford Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to possessing fraudulent identity documents with intent and driving a motor vehicle whilst over the specified drug limit. Gyaurov was sentenced to 14 months’ imprisonment for the document offence and 3 months’ imprisonment to run concurrently for the drug driving.

The 14-month term will start at the halfway point of his current sentence, January 2025.

Gyaurov was also disqualified from driving for 51 months.

Gyaurov will have to pay a surcharge. The false licence has been forfeited for destruction.
