A serving Metropolitan Police officer, PC Jake Cummings, 23, from Hemel Hempstead, has pleaded not guilty to charges of rape, stalking, and controlling and coercive behaviour towards a woman, during a plea hearing at St Albans Crown Court.
The charges against Cummings include allegations of rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and stalking against the same woman between January 1, 2022, and February 1, 2024. The victim’s identity has been protected by legal restrictions.
Cummings is accused of installing cameras at the victim’s workplace to monitor her, isolating her from her family and friends, and controlling her whereabouts by installing software on her phone. Additionally, he is alleged to have threatened suicide to emotionally blackmail the victim and made unnecessary medical appointments for her that she could not attend without him.
The defendant faces multiple charges, including rape, stalking, and controlling and coercive behaviour, which are said to have occurred during periods when Cummings was off duty. These actions have resulted in his suspension from his role in the Met’s Central West Command.
During the plea hearing, Cummings spoke only to confirm his identity and enter pleas of not guilty to all charges.
Presiding over the hearing, Judge Francis Sheridan remanded Cummings into custody. The case has been adjourned to a further hearing at the same court scheduled for May 17, where further proceedings will take place.
