A shocking incident unfolded in Colchester when a 16-year-old boy was stabbed multiple times following an argument inside a local chicken shop. The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, sustained life-threatening injuries but has fortunately made a full recovery.
The altercation, captured on CCTV, began inside Pepes Chicken Shop before escalating into a physical fight on Queen Street. The victim suffered several stab wounds during the altercation.
Kaya Adu, 19, and Rushi Jadeja, 21, were swiftly identified as the primary suspects and were apprehended by authorities on January 13, just four days after the assault. Both individuals have admitted to Section 18 grievous bodily harm (GBH) charges, with Adu facing an additional charge of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.
Detective Chief Inspector Greg Wood from Essex and Kent Serious Crime Directorate expressed concern over the incident, particularly its occurrence in a bustling area during early evening hours. He commended the swift actions of law enforcement officers and paramedics in responding to the scene and securing vital evidence.
The guilty pleas from Adu and Jadeja have spared the victim the ordeal of a trial, allowing him to move forward with his recovery process. The sentencing for both men is scheduled for June 4 at Chelmsford Crown Court.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of prompt and decisive action in addressing violent crimes within communities.
