The murder of High Wycombe resident Karl Stanislaus has left investigators reeling, with Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Brangwin describing the killing as one of the most horrific attacks he has encountered throughout his career.

Mr. Stanislaus, aged 44, suffered 56 knife wounds during a brutal assault on the evening of September 5, 2023. His lifeless body was discovered under a disused railway bridge in Bowden Lane, High Wycombe, following the frenzied attack perpetrated by 24-year-old Arncott resident Tyrell James.

James was convicted of murder on March 27 at Reading Crown Court, where he also pleaded guilty to a separate, non-fatal knife attack in 2022.

The defendant, a self-confessed drug dealer, allegedly targeted Mr. Stanislaus over a drug-related dispute, leading to the fatal confrontation.

Detective Chief Inspector Brangwin, who spearheaded the investigation into the murder, issued a detailed statement regarding the case.

Tyrell James is an extremely violent individual, responsible for the death of Mr. Stanislaus and serious knife injuries to another victim in a previous incident,” said DCI Brangwin.

He continued, “The nature of Mr. Stanislaus’ murder is undeniably one of the most appalling acts of violence I have encountered in my career. The injuries sustained by Mr. Stanislaus were catastrophic, and the audio captured from nearby CCTV cameras, depicting his desperate pleas for his life, is chilling.

Despite James initially denying any involvement in the attack, he eventually confessed to the crime after a thorough investigation linked him to the scene. The jury’s decision to convict him of murder brings some measure of justice for Mr. Stanislaus and his grieving family.

DCI Brangwin expressed his gratitude to the victim’s family for their patience and cooperation throughout the investigation, acknowledging the immense pain they endured during the process.

“No family should endure such suffering, and I hope that the conviction of Mr. Stanislaus’s killer brings them some solace,” he added.

With James now facing a lengthy prison sentence, the community hopes to find closure and move forward from this tragic event.

The sentencing hearing is scheduled to take place at a later date, where James will learn the consequences of his heinous actions.
