A drug dealer’s brazen activities in a playground in Islington were abruptly halted when he was chased down and apprehended by a vigilant police officer. Willano Moore, 27, of Hornsey Street, Holloway, now faces the likelihood of a prison sentence after pleading guilty to multiple drug-related offences.

The incident unfolded on August 31, 2020, when an officer on patrol spotted Moore selling drugs in Paradise Park, Islington. Upon being confronted by the officer, Moore fled the scene, initiating a chase that spanned approximately 200 meters. Despite his attempts to evade capture, Moore was contained within the playground of a nearby primary school.

In the aftermath of the pursuit, officers conducted a thorough search of the area, uncovering a discarded burner phone in a shrub adjacent to the school. Subsequent investigations revealed that the phone was linked to a drug line offering crack cocaine and heroin for sale, further implicating Moore in illicit activities.

Following an extensive legal process, Moore was charged with being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine and heroin, as well as acquiring, using, or possessing criminal property. He pleaded guilty to these charges at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Thursday, May 2, foregoing a trial that was scheduled for June of the same year.

During the court proceedings, Judge HHJ Sharkey indicated that a custodial sentence was likely for Moore when he returns to court for sentencing on Friday, June 28.

Sergeant Will Smith, commenting on the incident, commended the bravery of the officer who pursued Moore, highlighting the danger posed by Moore’s actions in a children’s play park. He emphasized the swift and decisive action taken by law enforcement, resulting in Moore’s apprehension and subsequent guilty plea.

Despite Moore’s attempt to evade justice, the evidence against him, including the discarded phone, left him with no option but to admit to his involvement in drug dealing activities.

The apprehension of Moore serves as a reminder of law enforcement’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of communities, particularly in areas frequented by children.
