Three men from Leeds have found themselves in hot water after being spotted “cruising” truck stops and service stations across Derbyshire — without insurance.
Derbyshire Police said the trio were stopped after officers noticed suspicious behaviour at several truck stops and motorway service areas. When questioned about the vehicle they were travelling in, the men reportedly claimed they had “just bought it” — a common excuse, officers noted with a hint of amusement.
However, a quick check revealed the car had no valid insurance policy in place. The vehicle was immediately seized, and the three men are now facing fines and potential court appearances for driving without insurance.
Officers couldn’t resist a tongue-in-cheek post on social media, sharing: “Three lads from Leeds seen cruising the counties truck stops and service stations. ‘Just bought it’ ?? No insurance ??⚖️ Vehicle seized, points and fines incoming.”
Police are reminding all drivers that having valid insurance is a legal requirement and that excuses won’t prevent action being taken.
A spokesperson for Derbyshire Police added: “We regularly patrol service areas and truck stops to disrupt criminal activity and ensure vehicles on our roads are legal and safe. If you drive uninsured, expect to lose your vehicle and face prosecution.”
The seized vehicle has been taken to a secure compound, and the men have been reported.
