Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters are currently tackling a significant blaze at an electrical substation on Victoria Passage, Aberdeen Place, near Paddington (NW8). The fire, reported at 5:29 AM, has caused thick plumes of smoke to spread across the area, prompting urgent advice for residents to keep their windows and doors shut.
The London Fire Brigade’s 999 Control officers received approximately 73 emergency calls as the dramatic fire became highly visible across central London.
Station Commander Paul Morgan, who is leading the response on-site, said:
“This is a very visible fire and there is lots of smoke. Residents are advised to keep their windows and doors shut to avoid inhaling smoke.”
Crews from Paddington and Euston fire stations are on the scene, supported by a turntable ladder and a bulk foam unit to assist in extinguishing the blaze. Firefighters are working quickly to bring the situation under control and prevent further damage.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and investigations will be launched once the fire is fully extinguished.
There are no reports of injuries at this stage.
