Three teenagers have been convicted of the murder of 17-year-old Reuben Higgins, who was fatally stabbed during a brutal attack in Marston Green, Solihull, in October 2024.
Abdurrahman Summers, 18, and two 15-year-old boys, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were found guilty of murder today at Birmingham Crown Court. They will be sentenced on 5 August.
Brutal Attack in Station Road
The court heard harrowing details of how Reuben was chased and stabbed multiple times near the Esso petrol station on Station Road, after he and his friends were confronted by a group of four teenagers.
As the suspects reached for their waistbands, a knife was produced, prompting Reuben and his friends to run in panic. Reuben fled to a nearby shop, desperately trying to block the door and shouting to the shopkeeper:
“They’re trying to kill me.”
The attackers forced their way inside, and in a ten-second frenzy, Reuben was stabbed in the leg, arm, and chest.
Investigation and Arrests
Following the attack, the group fled. In a chilling twist, one of the 15-year-olds returned to the scene to retrieve a mobile phone he dropped before escaping on a bus.
Despite attempts by passers-by to save him, Reuben succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Thanks to CCTV footage, witness statements, and forensic evidence, police swiftly identified and arrested the three teenagers in November 2024. The fourth suspect is believed to have fled the UK and remains wanted by police.
West Midlands Police said: “This was a savage and unprovoked attack on a young man with his whole life ahead of him. We are committed to locating the fourth suspect.”
