An 18-year-old robber who used a knife to threaten teenage boys and steal high-value clothing and accessories in Gillingham has been jailed for more than seven years.

Cameron Joseph, of Balmoral Road, was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday, 23 May, after pleading guilty to two counts of robbery and two counts of possessing a bladed weapon in public.

Targeting Teenagers Near Schools

The first robbery took place on 10 February 2025, when Joseph spotted two teenagers while riding a bus through Gillingham town centre. After getting off, he approached them on Brompton Road, asked personal questions, and offered to buy a Canada Goose jacket. The boys attempted to walk away but saw a knife in his waistband.

Joseph then ushered one of them into an alleyway, became aggressive, and stole the jacket, AirPods, and other items.

Six days later, on 16 February, Joseph followed another teenage boy in the Brompton area and asked for his bag. When the victim refused, Joseph threatened to stab him, displaying a knife in his jacket pocket, and the boy handed over his belongings.

Identification and Arrest

Detectives identified Joseph thanks to a distinctive rose tattoo on his hand described by a victim. He was arrested in Gravesend on 20 February following a foot chase, wearing the stolen jacket and carrying the stolen bag.

Sentencing

Joseph received an extended sentence of seven years and three months. He will serve four years and three months in prison, with a further three years on licence if released on parole.

Detective Sergeant Richard Taylor said:
“This criminal chose to rob teenagers and threaten them with a knife. Thanks to detailed descriptions, officers were able to bring him to justice. Medway is certainly a safer place in his absence.”
