Two police officers are recovering in hospital after their vehicle was severely damaged during a high-speed pursuit on the A12 in East London yesterday (June 10).

The incident began at approximately 4.20pm on Cathall Road, where officers attempted to stop a vehicle that failed to comply. The pursuit continued onto the northbound A12, culminating in a collision with a police car at the Green Man Roundabout at around 4.40pm.

Following the crash, all traffic on the A12 northbound was halted as emergency services, including an air ambulance, rushed to the scene.

Emergency Response and Injuries

Two Metropolitan Police officers were injured, with one officer believed to have sustained a fractured arm. Both were transported to hospital for treatment.

The driver and two passengers of the fleeing vehicle were also taken to hospital as a precautionary measure, police confirmed.

A Met Police spokesperson said:
The driver of the vehicle has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and remains in police custody. Enquiries are ongoing.”

 Road Closures and Traffic Impact

The crash caused major delays on the A12 northbound, with queues building quickly following the full closure. Traffic officers worked to clear the scene, and the road has since reopened.

Ongoing Investigation

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, and police have not confirmed further charges at this stage.

Anyone who witnessed the pursuit or the collision is urged to contact 101, quoting incident time 4.40pm, June 10, or message @MetCC on X (formerly Twitter).
